Issued: 10th Jul 1950. Perf: 13x12½. Watermark Wz 1 and available on sheets (10x10). Designed by Kreische and issued to commemorate 250 years of the German Academy of Sciences, Berlin.

This stamp features Alexander von Humboldt (14th Sep 1769 to 6th May 1859), a Prussian polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and influential proponent of Romantic philosophy. He was the younger brother of the Prussian minister, philosopher, and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt.
